A lot of people ask us that – “Which are the best lubes to bring to parties?” It is important to carry your own lube, since you shouldn’t assume that the hosts will provide it and because you’re probably going to need it at some point. So we don’t look biased, we polled three women to get their input on the subject. We asked each one to give us her all-time favorite lube and tell us why she likes it. Some of the answers may surprise you. (All names have been changed at our discretion.)
“I know it’s old, but Astroglide has always been great. I switched over to Astroglide Natural pretty recently, and I haven’t been happier. It’s water-based and water-soluble, so it’s safe to use with condoms (editor’s note: oil-based lubes weaken latex condoms and can cause tearing), and it lasts long. It’s not as thick as some lubes, but it works well. I might go through a lot at a party, but I know I’m not going to be raw, and I don’t have to worry about irritation or anything. It actually has aloe leaf extract, which I found out recently—I thought it explained why it kept irritation down so well. It doesn’t have glycerin or parabens, for anyone who worries about that kind of thing, and it doesn’t have alcohol, which can be drying. If you’re sensitive to fragrances or flavorings, none of those either. It does have chamomile, which I think might be an allergen for some people. Overall, it’s my favorite right now. I see it being my friend for a long time.”
Ginger: ID Millennium
“I started using ID Millennium a few years ago. I like silicone lubricants because they last very long and never get absorbed or be sticky, the way water-based lubes do, which means a bottle lasts longer. I’ve even used it in the bath a couple of times, and it doesn’t wash away. They’re also condom-safe, which is a good thing when you’re a swinger or anyone who has sex with a lot of partners. You don’t need a lot of it like you do with some lubes. About the only downsides are that you can’t use silicone-based lubes with silicone toys, so I have some water-based lube at home for that, and it can be difficult to fully wash off, since it’s not water-soluble and soap isn’t exactly vagina-friendly.”
Maureen: Liquid Silk Maximus
“I used to use Liquid Silk’s original formula, but I found Maximus a few years ago, and for me, it’s a lot better. Its water based same as the original, so it’s safe with all condoms and sex toys. Just keep it away from the battery compartment, but you should do that with any lube. It’s a lot thicker than the original, so it lasts longer and I need less. One of the big selling points of Maximus, considering I’m a swinger, is that it’s supposed to be biostatic. That keeps it from spreading bacteria, yeast and all that gross stuff. It’s also high in glycol, so it’s supposed to help retain natural lubrication, not make it dry up or get sticky or anything like that.”
There you have it. Choose the best lubricant for you?
